cheerful clock
OBJECTIVE:

design a clock that embodies the word,
cheerful
I chose the themes of: pillowfort, whimsical, and funky shapes to represent what "cheerful" meant to me, visually.

IDEATING THROUGH SKETCH
sketching brought me towards an anthropomorphic form and away from representational ideas
IDEATING THROUGH MODEL-MAKING
I iterated almost exclusively with clay
this medium allowed me to explore soft, bubbly forms quickly
full size models
early mini-models
NARROWING DOWN THE FORM
through a lot of trial and error, i was able to get to the final shape of my little guy,
looking up to the world with nothing but joy and excitement
FABRICATION
cutting & sanding high-density foam to form
adding parting line
(then ruining it and having to redo it)
priming, sanding, & spray painting
(also had to redo this)
priming & painting clock face and parts
while adding the parting line, two of my professors walked (ran) up to me and begged me to stop and told me that I was ruining my clock. this resulted in a respectable amount of spackle, sanding, and crying in my car.
